Popular with locals and tourists alike, the Tarr Steps is a clapper bridge, made of huge prehistoric looking stone slabs, and is believed to date back to 1000 BC, with some arguing for a medieval origin.
A local legend claims the devil himself laid the stones and forbade anyone from crossing – until a clever parson outwitted him!
Nestled within Exmoor National Park, the area around the bridge teems with rare flora and fauna, making it a haven for walkers and wildlife lovers alike.
In this print I have sought to capture the essence of the steps and the River Barle in summer – looking back towards the pub as shafts of sunlight create an almost mystical quality to the whole scene. Please let me know if you’d like to know more about this Tarr Steps Art Print.
