This digital collage print of the Round House at Stanton Drew captures the charm and mystery of one of Somerset’s most intriguing historic sites. Set in the heart of the Chew Valley, the Round House is a distinctive circular toll house dating back to the early 19th century. Its unique octagonal shape, white stone walls, and conical thatched roof make it a rare architectural gem, once used to collect tolls from travellers passing through this quiet rural crossroads.
In this print, I am sought to capture the Round House’s storybook quality, nestled amidst lush greenery and under open skies. I was keen to include a bright palette and some finer details such as the boxing hares atop the thatched roof, inviting you to step into a slower, more reflective world, where history and landscape intertwine. This artwork is perfect for lovers of British heritage, folklore, and the quiet beauty of the countryside.
