Description
Popular with families, this north Cornish beach is spacious, yet sheltered, boasting a small stream, rock pools, and dunes ready for exploration.
The word Harlyn is Cornish ‘ar-Lyn’ meaning facing a pool. Perhaps the natural topography of the shelted, crescent-shaped bay influenced the name…
Close to Trevose Head, Mother Ivey’s Bay and Constantine, Harlyn is steeped in British pre-history. The remains of an Iron Age cemetery was uncovered in the 1900s. At a similar time, two wafer-thin half-moons of gold were found close to burial mounds in the area. Possibly dating to the Bronze Age, these ‘lunulae’ are thought to have symbolic meaning, representing the crescent horns of the moon.
