Description

Description

Ham Hill is a wildlife haven and a popular place for those interested in British pre-history. With expansive views out towards the levels, the promontory was once home to an Iron Age community. The hill has given its name to the distinctive local quarried stone ‘hamstone’. It also features in the names of the two villages which nestle beneath the hill: Stoke-sub-Hamdon and Norton Sub Hamdon, whose names mean “under-Ham-hill”. Ham is Old English for a small settlement. The monument featured in this print, sits to the edge of the Ham Hill plateau and commemorates local people killed in both world wars.

Also available in 40x50cm prints from The Hambridge Artist in Ilminster.
