It’s been a while since my last blog, so my apologies for the radio silence! You might be wondering what I’ve been up to – well, since my last update, I’ve been deeply immersed in expanding my print collection and evolving the direction of my business. A lot has changed, and I’m thrilled to share it with you.
A Shift in Focus: Prints, Prints, Prints!
Over the past few months, I made the decision to focus entirely on selling prints of my work, rather than splitting my attention across various products. This involved some significant changes, like closing my small unit at The Emporium in Wellington – which also meant saying goodbye to my glassware products for now.
I’ve moved my older designs and end-of-line items to my Etsy store, which has essentially become my ‘outlet shop’. It’s been a fantastic way to keep my designs alive while creating room for the exciting new work I’ve been developing.
Digital Collage Landscapes: A Growing Collection
Since launching my digital collage landscape collection at Easter, things have really taken off! I’ve been absolutely blown away by the reception my work has received. I’ve completed around 30 commissioned designs, and the collection continues to grow. My landscapes now capture scenes from all over the UK – from the South West to South Yorkshire, London to Lincolnshire, and plenty of places in between.
As an artist, I’m always looking to push my creative boundaries, and working with digital collage has allowed me to explore intricate details in my designs. It feels like a return to my roots, as detailed work was always my artistic voice when I was younger. The Adobe software I use has given me a whole new level of creative freedom, and I’m finding inspiration everywhere I go.
Beyond the visual appeal of these landscapes, I’ve also been indulging my love of history. Many of my designs incorporate elements of local history and folklore, which adds a layer of meaning to the artwork. I include historical facts with each design – a little nugget of information to go along with the piece. When you purchase a print, you’ll receive this description as a keepsake, so you can enjoy both the art and the story behind it.
New Stockists: Expanding My Reach
I’m thrilled to announce some new partnerships with local stockists that have been a real highlight of my year.
Rocket and Bird, an artist-led shop in Taunton, approached me earlier this year about stocking my prints. Their support has meant the world to me – it felt like a real vote of confidence in my work. Sales have been going from strength to strength, and I’ve received several commission requests from people who discovered my prints there. It’s been such an exciting journey!
I’m also now stocked at The Hambridge Artist in Ilminster. Hannah, the artist behind the shop, reached out to me in July, and it’s been a joy to create designs specifically for her customers. I’ve even scaled up some of my prints to 40x50cm for the shop – a new and exciting venture for me.
Lastly, I was selected to supply my prints to Barnsley Museums at the Cooper Art Gallery. Although I’m still waiting for the final details, the prospect of selling my Barnsley-themed prints in my hometown is something I’m really looking forward to. Fingers crossed for this one!
Bespoke Art Commissions
Commissioned work has become a huge part of my business, and it’s something I’ve come to love. My first commission came through in May, and I’ve been busy ever since, creating everything from personalised home designs to commercial premises and even a flower farm!
I offer several options for bespoke pieces, ranging from completely unique, one-off designs to semi-bespoke prints that join my main collection. Whether it’s a special wedding gift, an anniversary present, or just a meaningful piece for a loved one, I’m always excited to create something truly unique for my customers.
Super Seconds Festival: A Brilliant Success
Earlier this month, I took part in the Super Seconds Festival, an online event that brings together over 250 artists and makers to sell samples, seconds, and end-of-line stock at discounted prices. It was such a fantastic experience, and it pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible – including taking part in two Instagram Live sessions (something I never thought I’d do!).
The response was overwhelming, and I’ve been able to clear some space at home while connecting with new customers. If you missed it, don’t worry – my Etsy shop still has 20% off until mid-November.
Looking Ahead
So, that’s a little update on what I’ve been up to! With Christmas fast approaching, I’m busy preparing for the festive season, but I’m also excited about what lies ahead. Keep an eye on my Etsy shop for new designs, and if you’re looking for a special, bespoke gift, feel free to get in touch!
Until next time, stay cosy – I’ll be wrapped in a blanket, braving the colder weather to get ready for my next event! Xx
